Jennifer's Summer Letter

All staff:

Please email me pictures from your summer vacations for our slide show!

Happy 50th Year for Edison High School! It is going to be a “Golden” year.

I hope you are enjoying a fun filled and relaxing summer vacation. Our SAC staff finished summer school on July 20th and hopefully by now are getting some well deserved rest. Seamus and the amazing maintenance staff have been busy cleaning rooms and refinishing floors getting ready for your return. Paul Tabony and Shane Heath along with the districts IS crew have been busy getting the new Chromebooks ready for classes. We have received new Chromebooks to replace our old Samsung and new ones for Geometry classes. IS also finished installing projectors for those of you who were next on the list. Our back grass field (where we evacuate to) is also being redone to allow our athletes, band, and PE another field to play on. Things are starting to come together and will be ready when you return on August 27th.

We have some new additions to our Charger family. As you are aware, John Elliot retired and we have a new Assistant Principal, Amy Sabol. Amy comes to us from Dana Hills High School. She has a lot of experience in education with an emphasis on Counseling, College and Career and Career Technical Education, she will make a great addition to our Administrative team.

Kristin Cooley-Band Director prior to Edison, Kristin was the Band Director at Talbert. She comes to us with a lot of experience and passion. Students are already putting in transfers from FVHS to stay with Miss Cooley!

Diana Munoz-Spanish Teacher Diana actually is returning to us. Last year, when Kristen Blain went on maternity leave, we were fortunate to have Diana sub for her. She did a fantastic job and we are happy to have her with us full time this year.

Geraldine DiTomasso- Spanish Teacher-We are so happy to welcome back Geraldine. Geraldine is returning to Edison after spending one year at Marina.

Welcome Back!

Colleen Burke-Johnson-English Teacher Name sound familiar?? Yep, Colleen is Jane’s daughter and an Edison Alumni. This is Colleen’s 7th year teaching. For the last 6 she has been up in San Jose teaching Middle School. We are so lucky to have Colleen and her experience. She will be teaching 3 sections in English. She is replacing Courtney Duncan who got a full time position at Los Al High School.

Mailelei Penn-SPED Mild/Moderate (sounds like Miley) We are excited to have “snatched” Mailelei from the ABC school district. Mailelei comes to us with a “plethora” of experience in Special Ed. She will be part time and sharing Jeff Lam’s case load.

Sarah Hatfield- We welcome Sarah to our Science Department. She will be teaching Biology.

As you know we have a new TOSA position for Activities. Congratulations to Jeff Lam. He will be our new Activities Director. He has been busy meeting with our ASB students throughout the summer and they have a lot of great things planned for the school year.

Our office is currently open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and closed for lunch from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00pm. If you come in during the weekend or after 4:00 p.m. be sure to call the district security number (714) 536-7521 ext 5.

When you return, we have two great days planned. On Monday, August 27th. Our entire EHS staff will meet at 7:30am in the cafeteria for breakfast sponsored by our PTSA. You will be taking your school picture and receiving your ID card. The photographer will be set up starting at 7:15am. We will be together as a staff until 12 noon. You will have lunch on your own and the afternoon is scheduled for you and your department to meet.

On Tuesday, August 28th the schedule is a little different. We will meet in the cafeteria for our staff breakfast potluck (see assignments below). Remember, if you brought food at the last staff meeting in June, you don’t have to bring food in August. After breakfast, we will quickly meet to go over the day’s agenda. Gen Ed. Teachers will be broken up into teams and will attend four 35 minute sessions preparing us for Smart Start and we will also be trained on Aeries communications. This communication system will allow us to communicate directly with our students and parents similar to Remind 101. SAC will be having their own Professional Development in room 302. After break, all staff will meet in the bowl to take our annual picture. Immediately following our picture, we have scheduled another fun filled all staff team building activity. I promise, it will be fun! For lunch, ASB will be hosting lunch for the staff and then you will have the rest of the day to prepare in your classroom.

Continue to relax and enjoy your last two weeks. I am looking forward to seeing all of you on Monday, August 27th at 7:30am.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Graves

Principal
